What available OS would you recommend for a X41 Tablet?

#1 Post by Smokestoomuch » Wed Dec 04, 2013 8:53 pm

It's been a while since I've played with my X41Tablet. I like to draw pictures on it. I thought the XP Tablet OS was pretty good for drawing but isn't XP no longer supported? Is something in the Linux family good for drawing? Ive heard WIN7 is fast but does it have good drawing software? Thanks for any help.

Admin edit: Corrected to X41 in subject line and body of message.

Win 7 will not be that great on X41T due to lack of proper graphics driver, and if you're still running on the original HDD it will be outright slow.

Try Ubuntu or Mint...they're pretty good with tablet support. Whether they'll fit your needs can only be decided by yourself.

Good luck.

I have Win7 Ultimate in my X41T, but mine is maxed out to 2GB and a ZIF SSD. As mentioned by Ajkula66 above I wouldn't install Win7 on the slow, noisy stock hard drive.

You can tweak the graphics driver but the procedure is tricky, you need some patience. But if you get it working it will run very good.

Linux on the other side will be faster and easier to install, but the last time I tried Mint on it there was some manual work to be done in order to get the tablet buttons working, but maybe this was fixed in the newer versions. Best thing would be to try it out from a USB drive and see how it works...

Thanks for the replies. I have a 5400 Toshiba hdd and a 2GB ram stick, so it's about as maxed as it will go. Does Linux have worthwhile drawing software?

5400 RPM Toshiba? That must be something very new, I was only aware of two Samsung models running on that speed (and those were ZIF models that need an adapter). Can you post the model number?

I have no experience with drawing software, sorry... :| I would run a live version of Mint from an USB drive and check how the software works.

My 2 cents...
