X31 0192 Error after motherboard change...Revisit again

#1 Post by wa1wxl » Fri Dec 06, 2013 8:19 pm

My X31 motherboard died and I picked one up off ebay at a good price, but after installation I powered it up and got the 0192 security error... After reading the various posts on this forum and others I know the issues resides with the security chip on the firewire/IR daughter card.
Since I haven't found workable solution yet, I thought I would revisit this topic again to see if there is any new information on how to solve this problem.
A couple of questions before I go tearing the unit apart again..
1. if I take out the firewire/IR module will the error go away??
2. Is there a software fix ( hate to use the word "hack") to resolve this issue.
3. Has anyone dug into this problem deep enough to identify the chip in the daughter card that causes the issue... If so would disabling the chip resolve the problem?
4. if I take my chances and find a firewire/IR module that is "clean" with no BIOs security set, would that work??

Or last but not least just scrap the X31... :(

Any comments will be welcome...
Thanks

Motherboard and security chip form a unique pair, and MUST stay together at all times.
If the security chip is damaged/lost/replaced, the motherboard is no longer usable.
You probably got the mobo without its matching chip.
