ARRGH! So frustrating!

#1 Post by Txiasaeia » Fri Jun 18, 2004 3:18 pm

Is there any way to automatically update everything on my X31 (specifically IBM updates)? I updated a couple of things and now wireless doesn't work at all, so I'm in the process of reinstalling to factory defaults. Barring any automatic update, what specific order should I reinstall everything?

After a factory recovery I usually update the IBM Update Connector to version 5.32. Last time it picked up almost all the new drivers and utilities. Then I just compare the installed programs' version number in Software Installer "View driver or application version information" to IBM's driver matrices, and manually install the programs the IBM UC might have missed.

An other way is to download all the drivers/utilities. Extract them to the Driver folder (default) and run Software Installer and it scans the IBMTOOLS and DRIVER folders and gives you the list of programs you need to update. Of course you can let the Software Installer to do the installiation (works very well).

And the problem continues... everything is reinstalled, and apparently the wireless network connection is "excellent," but it's still refusing to connect to anything. The network icon on the Thinkpad itself keeps on flashing until it just turns itself off. What's going on?

EDIT: I can find my home network without any problem, and it says that it connects, but it doesn't actually connect. BTW, I've been using wireless for two days now without any problems. Maybe this is important?

What do you mean? Can you see other computers? Ping them? Does it show a connection speed? Do other compouters see you?

No, no connection speed, no communication whatsoever.

I think I've narrowed it down to a conflict between the latest version of the Access Communications program with the Intel Pro/Wireless 2100 3B mpci driver ver 1.2.2.9. Anybody else have this problem?

Just use the windows wireless config. acces connections is glitchy at best.
Much easier faster to connect upon restart and in/out of standby and hibernation.

So how do I get rid of Access Communication? For whatever reason, when I allowed Windows to connect across the network, Access Comm showed up and said, "Oh yeah, I forgot! Let's connect to the network!" It seems to work fine now, but I'd like to avoid this fiasco in the future.

You can uninstall it in the control panel through the add/remove programs
the under Access IBM tools when you click to change or remove it will bring a list of all the utilities and then remove from there.
