x41 tablet recovery partition

Hello,
I bought an x41 tablet off ebay and it comes with no OS installed and the recovery partition is missing. As it turns out it is not possible to download windows xp tablet edition, so I spent ages googling and you are now my last hope - could anyone please send me the recovery partition image for X41T either online or by posting CDs/DVDs? I can pay postage & disk expenses.

Have you considered installing Windows 7? It has built-in support for pen input and it's not all that slower from XP. If you need XP for certain software, then a clean install is much better than using recovery media with obsolete drivers, etc. There are numerous tutorials online how to slipstream the tablet pack into a plain XP disk. Also, lightweight linux distros support pen input out of the box. Last but not least, you can go with Android on it

When you have a valid licence it's sad to be obliged buying a new one.

It seem possible to deploy XP Tablet PC Edition from Windows XP SP2 CD
if the licence is a Windows XP Tablet PC Edition.

But it's not clear whether the Tabletpc.cab file is on the CD or not.

If installing with a Windows XP Pro CD (without any Service Pack), the netbook installs as Windows XP Professionnal because the tablet edition is a superset of it. During install, XP Pro asks to insert a second CD that you don't have, but you can however install the OS.
Later, applying the SP2 transforms the XP Professionnal into the Tablet Edition and the typical splash screens of the tablet edition displays. But this doesn't make the touch work because there was probably not any Tabletpc.cab file to install.
It's not clear if those components would come with an installation CD already including the Service Pack 2. Can someone check if the Tabletpc.cab file is on the CD ? It should be in a folder named "cmpnents".

I read that the handwriting recognition was improved with Vista, and maybe even later with Seven. Handwriting recognition is currently the weak point for Linux. MyScript.com provides a nice commercial but cheap software named "MyScript Stylus". It runs under Linux using Wine, but from my tests you cannot copy-paste to other applications like LibreOffice or others.

For Linux is also Ink2Text, which also requires Wine.
It acts as a library and could be interfaced with applications if called from them.
The Ship project from the same author acts as a console client for Ink2Text.

For Linux, other interesting projects are CellWriter, Libstroke.
There are also several virtual keyboards available, like xvkbd for instance.

Android is interesting as there seem being handwriting apps for it.
But I wonder if it's really nice for the X41 tablet, as this is also a PC and not a pure tablet.
Also, this mean depending on Google and the Play Store.

Experiences of people who tested Android on the X41 tablet would be welcome.

Tried Android on an X41t. It ran fine, albeit a little hot temp wise. Seemed to be a novelty though. OP's concerns led me to this: http://micropctalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2656

I have not tried this but I have the necessary ingredients and may give it a go.
