USB 2.0 card reader much faster than X40 SD Slot

I just finished copying 935MB in files from both the X40 SD slot and a USB 2.0 card reader. A Lexar 1GB card rated at 40x was used.

X40 SD Slot: 4 mins 25 secs
USB 2.0 Card Reader: 3 mins 30 secs

Interesting, I would have thought that the card only interface would have been faster than the USB which has to pass between both the card and then the USB interface.

Sadly I've seen this happen with other integrated readers. I guess you just have to consider the advantage of not needing an extra doodad in your bag.

Theoretically, the carbus interface on the SD slot is twice as fast as the USB 2.0, so your results seem strange. On my X31, the CF slot and a USB2 transfer files at the same speed, which is still not good enough but at least better than this.

Could be that your CF card is the limiting factor or the X31's CF interface is faster. What speed was the card?
