got my x32!

#1 Post by phiber » Mon May 23, 2005 8:18 pm

I ordered my x32 (2885k4u) on the 18th and recieved it on the 23rd. So much for 20 day waiting??

Now my question is, the windows installation it comes with. Seems a bit cluttery, meaning it comes with alot of stuff installed. I wanted to know if i can wipe it clean and reinstall winxp and the drivers and the IBm access stuff only? if so how would i go about it?

There has been a lot of discussion about this.

First make the recovery CDs. This should be done before you do anything.

Also back up DRIVER and IBMTOOLS folder on your C drive.

Unless you already have a Windows XP CD, create the windows XP CD following the instruction on sticky in Windows OS forum here.

Change your BIOS setting so that you can access hidden partition IF you want to remove it to allow more HD space. If not then just leave it.

INstall Windows XP and do all the updates.

Install anti virus and anti spyware softwares

Use Thinkpad software installer to install all the latest drivers and tools.

Install other softwares (Office etc)

That's it and you are good to go. :)

I think if you order earlier, your order is in a mess since they are not sure you are a custom of Lenovo or IBM. But you order later, it is clear that you are a custom of this new Lenovo. BTW, my order is in IBM. It seems like it is OEMed to Lenovo. My item is priced at $1025, IBM get the price $741. So, Lenovo gets fewer, they tends to pospone my order.

Yeah I ordered the Monday it became official. Oddly the T42 which I ordered at the same time and originally didn't even schedule a date beyond the initial 6/15, has just last night changed to shipped.
