I hope this package arrives in new condition. I for some reason think my laptop is going to be junk because of this crap, look at my UPS tracking for my X40:

I don't see anything that indicates to me that your notebook has been mishandled. It got held up in customs and then put in the wrong shipment. Unfortunate and frustrating, but not particularly alarming.

It always happens for UPS. Don't worry about it, it should be several days delay.

Well we will see. I will be extra careful now in looking for dead pixels and any damage.
I hate UPS. I have never had troubles with FedEX, I seem to have some sort of trouble with UPS once every 20 packages.

Your got through customs! I've been on the phone every day for several days with Lenovo. The CD-RW/DVD drive has been held up in customs since Thursday! First they didn't give them any documentation, then brokerage released it, but customs was missing an invoice or loading bill and to this day, it is still sitting there.
I'm not sure what Lenovo is doing, but it seems like this is happing a lot more.
At least it made it into the USA.

Gee, hope Lenovo can make some sort of deal with these custom problems taht other people may be suffering from...never realized this before, were IBM laptops shipping from USA before Lenovo?

No, IBM and now Lenovo both shipped from China and HK. Lenovo apparently though is messing the documentation up, which is causing the delays. Did not happen with IBM.

My UPS status says "Exception". Does yours say that? My 512 MB RAM upgrade came...I think they were both supposed to arrive at the same time, but now this delay..argh.

I'm ticked because I'm not here from Saturday onward, it was supposed to come tody (Wednesday). The problem is for some reason UPS is asking for a signature, FEDEX I have my signature on file and I tell them to drop the package at my porch.
This isn't even some express mail (where fedex asks for a signature, ground they never do) - UPS asked for a signature for my GROUND shipped RAM upgrade.
I won't be here to pick up the [censored] package now.
If you ever have a choice, I highly recommend choosing fedex or even the post office over UPS,

actually u know having to put your signature on anything is better than having them leave it on the porch, better safe than sorry i rather be there whe nthe package is there i know your busy but its more legit. if u just have them leave it on the porch and someone just steals your lappy than u would have to deal with bigger things than a week get what im saying? but yeah UPS has bad shipping and so unorganized cant argue with that

You can always go to the distribution center. Also, after the first attempt, you may be able to call UPS and have them "redirect" the package to another address. They always make you wait until after attempt #1 before they let you pick up in person or reroute, though.

I agreee to the above. I rather have them drop i ton my porch because my neighborhood is fine.
PS whenI say drop, fedex lightly puts the package down into your hands. I've seen UPS literally DROP a package from 2 feet high on my porch in front of my eyes, as if they have no remorse.

MY DRIVE LIVES!
WTF is Lenovo classifying these shipments as?

I've seen UPS do this too! So the day I'm supposed to get my x40 I'm looking out the window for the truck. He pulls up so I go out there to get it straight off his hands. As hes in the back of his truck he is throwing the other packages front the back to the front of his truck. I was like Whoa, so I was like "hey" to get his attn before he could grab mine. He did have a shocked look on his face like he got caught

. There have been USPS and UPS packages that I have gotten that look like they have been to hell and back. The stuff I get from FedEx still nice and has its white color to them, unlike UPS which come marked with blackness all over them

My UPS packages usually come nice and clean if they are Express/Next Day, but a mess when sent ground... probably because when they are going ground, no one really knows where it is going. However, the UPS center by me, as well as my driver know me, so I tend to not get too many things tossed around.

my UPS package has another update:
"THIS SHIPMENT IS WAREHOUSED UNTIL IT IS RELEASED BY CLEARING AGENCY;BROKERAGE RELEASED SHIPMENT. SHIPMENT IS SUBMITTED TO CLEARING AGENCY FOR FURTHER CLEARANCE"
it's been warehoused twice for clearance agency. This is in louisville, KY. Maybe it iwll be quicker if I jsut drive down there!! Har har.

Laptop arrived. Seems to be in superb condition.
I love the size/form of the laptop. I'm used to the CTRL key being the last key on the left, so I'm getting used to that. I'm also getting used to a smaller backspace. This is what you get for a slightly smaller laptop.
Also I hvae hte 1.1 ghz processor (thought I could preserve a litlte battery life) but it looks lik eI get under 2 hours on 4-cell battery, with wireless on (lol). Guess it's time to buy that 8-cell. If I'm only getting 2 hours on 4-cell, wonder if I will only get 4 hours on the 8-cell.
IBM installs some extra stuff on the system, I don't know if I should wipe it or not. Why would I? I thought I was going to get 30 GBs. My HD is actaully 25 GBs, and 5 is taken up by the backup stuff, so I actaully have ~19 gigs free. I was fine with having 25 gigs free, 19 is going to push it. I have to install 2 visual studios, 2 sql servers, and whatever other junk I was interested in having.
I guess I should start looking at posts on upgarding hard drives on the X40?
I will post pictures soon. I'm also interestd in trying to find a small laptop bag for this thing.

looks cool, but personally I'd like a messenger bag if I could get one. I need to store hte power cable, 8 cell battery, network cable, and portable mouse.

I also have an X-40 with 4 cell bat. On first charge I also got about 2 hrs. of use. I than ran the battery down below 2% then I charged to 100% and was able to get about 3 1/2 hrs. out of a full charge. I think you should be able to get the same. Give it a try.

Thanks. I'm doing it now. Maybe I only get 2 hours because I'm using wireless also? Maybe I should put the wireless setting on power conserve mode (??).
80% right now...
Didn't know how fun it is to program with a laptop actually on your lap. It's been on for the past 6 hours and it's not even close to hot (kick [censored]!). Very good keyboard too...fun.

i'll get photos up soon. I ran the battery down to 3%.
Yes it feels much thinner than the P7. Perfect form factor! it has made programming fun again.

You must push and hold "Fn" than push "F5" simultaneously and the connection screen will appear

hmm ill try it, but i thought i was pressing FN and then tapping F5. I did some research and found out the powe rsettings, but it's already set on lowest wireless power. I guses if I turn off wireless through those settings I may get some more battery lifetime....
THanks.

Guess What...?
I got the same thing from UPS. Mis-Sorted at hub, delayed at facility (appears to have passed customs). Also have one "Receiver requests UPS to contact them & hold package" which I never called them about, which is also strange.
My faith in UPS goes down by the day.
We shall see.
