X40's screen turns off on it's own every 2 seconds?!

hey guys,

after much reading on these forums i purchased an X40 last november and so far it has been great. today it started doing something very unusual. the monitor turns itself off whenever i don't touch a key or use the trackpoint for more than ~2 seconds. i checked the power settings, sleep settings, display settings etc to see if maybe something got set weird but that doesn't seem to be the case. also, i checked to see if something was stuck at the top right where the hinge activates "sleep mode" for my computer. not the case. i am hoping this isn't a hardware (send back for warranty) issue as i really need the laptop for my programming projects (almost finals week and i'm a graduating computer engineering senior).

does anyone have any ideas?

call IBM. send it in for repair or call IBM to ask if there is a service center near where you live.
