Why the Thinkpad Tablet is not a good choice

#1 Post by T41mbi » Sun Jun 05, 2005 9:07 pm

I am a big tablet user, i got my motion computing TabletPC and use it just as much as my Thinkpad

As a TabletPC user one of the most important qualities is the screen - Unfortunately, this is and has always been Thinkpads downfall - the thinkpad screens are good but no where as good as the competitors

I doubt the tablet will be any different

Huh?

You have not used the X41 Tablet right? Isn't it too early to draw a conclusion?

X41 will have a touchscreen/digitizer right? That alone says it has a different screen compared with other thinkpads. No I am not a big fan of thinkpad screens either, at least not the one on mine.

As a convertable tablet, isn't X41 one of the thinnest around? To me that's quite appealing.

So, don't buy one for yourself. Others will make their own decisions based on the criteria that is important to them.

X41T has the well-known, which is also the best among any laptops, Flexview technique that is usually used in high end T series.
Compared with X41/X40, the drawback of X41T is that it is heavier. However, it is still the lightest Tablet PC.

I fail to see how this will affect the performance of the tablet. Even if it doesn't have the best screen, it, like any other thinkpad will be very usable.

You're not making a whole lot of sense with your argument here.
X31, T43p (on sale soon I think :( ), T400

Most notebooks contains screens from the same 3 manufacturers anyway - the only screens i have ever seen which might be seen as better are on Sony Vaios - the onyx black ones look good but they mess with colour reproduction even more than normal.

IPS commonly isn't used in others notebooks so this alone sets a lot of the ThinkPads apart in terms of screen quality - and it is also rare to find such a range of high resolution machines which i like.

Also the screen on the X41 tablet is one of the best on the market - so in summary I find your statement to be nonsense.

Not sure how you can compare a tablet screen to a laptop screen.

I got my tablet today, so far I would put it up there with the motion/Fujitsu screens. Viewing angle is awesome, blows away the Toshiba screens on viewing angle(sorry, rather have viewing angle over resolution on a 12" screen).

The two big manufacturs for tablet screens are Toshiba, and the company that makes the ones for Motion/Fujitsu, for some reason I can't remember the name off hand. Not sure who makes the IBM one, but from what I can see it is highly competitive.

You obviously have not seen one.
It is listed as a "Super-Wide Viewing Angle TFT" 12.1" display panel.
Tablet PC displays have nothing to do with notbook displays.
They have to be better due to how they are used.
