Got my 12" Shinza ZeroShock sleeve!

#1 Post by ManUtdFan » Wed Jun 08, 2005 2:46 pm

I just got my 12" Shinza ZeroShock sleeve in the mail! It feels really nice and rugged, and I'm sure it will offer great protection for any notebook you put inside. The problem is, my X41 hasn't been delivered yet... Anyway if you guys would like I can answer questions and post pics? :)

I was going to order one for my x41 as well but I was not sure it would fit it with the 8 cell. Do you have the 8 cell and if so, let me know how it fits when you get it? I am looking for something that fits like a glove. I want a skin tight fit ( You could say I am looking for an " O.J." fit)

lol, oj fit.

i was/am worried that its just cheap thin foam for casing. would you really think it will be adiqute to protect your thinkpad if you only used that sleeve to protect it?

im still just a bit worried.

I've ordered my X41 with the 8-cell batteryso I will be able to check that for you, no problem. I am very sure it will fit well though - other users on this forum have said that the 12" sleeve fits an X40 with 8-cell battery just fine, and the X41 is of almost exactly the same size.

As for the degree of protection the sleeve provides, I'd say it's fairly rugged. It will surely protect a laptop from anything that could happen to it inside a bag, which is the sleeve's main purpose. I wouldn't want to drop my laptop even if it was inside this sleeve, but it might very well limit the impact damage to a bare minimum. The sides are very stiff (not just the zipper), and even the sides are not soft and completely bendable, they're also rather stiiff. I wouldn't say the fabric feels particularly like neoprene (diving suit material), more like a woolen hybrid.

Hope it helps! I'm looking forward to getting my X41 soon, hopefully today.

Neoprene is not a bad protective cover if all you need it for is to protect it from scratches or liquid. Shinza ads something else for extra protection. I want the case for when i am just running into Starbucks to hang out and dont want to carry in my swiss army laptop briefcase.

Exactly, that's one of my intended uses for it as well (apart from putting it in a backpack etc.). The sleeve is reinforced all around to add that extra protection, and it certainly feels sturdy enough to do its job very well.

I have the shinza sleeve for my x40 and it is nice to project from impacts and scratches etc...but just a note that if your throwing it in a backpack make sure you are not crushing your notebook...The Shinza sleeve offers pretty much nill protection from crushing forces. The top and bottom (IE non zipper part) is soft/protective, but it is not super stiff. I mean you could stab it with a sharp corner or something and the material would take the impact but not say if you loaded your backpack with books and set it with the notebook on the bottom.

LordGop, do you use it with an 8 cell? If so, how does it fit?

I do plan on getting and 8-cell, and the room that I have left in the case when my x40 with a 4 cell is in there tells me it will fit with an 8-cell no problem. Theres about over an inch of space with my x40 in there so I'm pretty dang sure this will fit the x40 with 8 cell just fine. That is the 12" shinza sleeve

BrainCell?

#10 Post by Sushi-D » Fri Jun 17, 2005 2:10 pm

Hi, all... first post here. Been lurking for a few days. (Why is itmy first posts on forums are always so... ordinary? :)

I've been coveting the Thinkpad X41Tablet for a while now, and this forum has been SO helpful! Y'all rock, and I appreciate how much research you do. I was about to place an order for the X41TPC "Express" version, thinking I could cleverly add a Bluetooth daughtercard later... and then I found the Thinkpads.com forum wisdom about the antenna. Cool.

ANYWAY, on topic.... based on a few of your requirements for the Shinza, I thought I'd point out the BrainCell: http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/300/TB0300

Hard-sided, but small. Maybe worth a look for y'all. (No, I dont work for them.... I got the link from tabletpcbuzz)
