X31 dead, does not power on

#1 Post by oliversl » Mon Jun 20, 2016 9:47 pm

Hi,
I have a X31 in the office, it does not power on. Its dead. It was working fine.

The same happened a few months ago and after letting without the baterry for couple of weeks it worked again.

I read about the 10 power button press and then a 30 seconds press. Does this make sense?

What else can I try?

BIOS Battery?

Many thanks
Oliver

BIOS battery might be a problem. If you can pull it out and measure the voltage it should be 3V or a little bit more. Assuming it's the original battery, it's due for replacement as they tend to last about 7 to 10 years.

However, my suggestion would be to pull the MiniPCI card out of the system and see if it powers up consistently. In the past I have seen "power" problems in A3x and T2x systems caused by defective MiniPCI cards.

Sorry to revive this old thread. 2016 does not seems to old anyway! :)
My X31 is also, currently, dead. He does that from time to time, but this time, I'm unable to bring it back.

What happens: Plugging the power cord just gives a blinking green battery led. long ON and very rapidly OFF.

I have already tried the Power Button trick (10 presses + long press) without power cord and battery. Several times.

CR32 battery was low: 2.7v. I have already changed it to a brand new Duracell one: 3.3v (measured directly at the motherboard BTW).

I have already tried to blow hot air on it.

I know about "dead motherboard", but... Anyone knows something else I can try? Im good in disassembly, reassembly, changing thermal paste, cleaning. I have a multimeter. I'm no Chuck Norris with a soldering iron, but I might be able to reheat/resolder something that's not BGA. I also have a heatgun...

Any help would be appreciated.

Well... no replies! :) Thank you community! :)

I tried one more thing. I left the battery @ the freezer for ~20 minutes.
Then, reinserted it and charged it a little bit.
It was able to boot. Not sure for how long, but it booted.
