X41 & UltraBase Dock: System Fails to Boot

#1 Post by andyli » Wed Jun 15, 2005 2:38 pm

I just got my X41 and the UltraBase X4. Running into a strange problem, however. Installed the battery, locked it (both sides), ran Windows Update and installed IBM Software Installer (and updated as necessary).

The system works fine by itself. However, when I put the unit on the X4 docking station, it freezes (it unfreezes if I undock it). If the unit is turned off and I put it on the Ultrabase, it cycles through the test (all of the lights on the status panel turn on - wireless/BT/Caps, etc) but then fails to turn on (all of the lights turn off except the battery light, and the light to the left it it turn on).

I am, however, able to eject the CD-ROM SlimDrive on the Ultrabase.

When I undock the unit, I get the "Windows Error" which asks me if I want to boot into Safe Mode or "Start Windows Normally". In control panel, it says it is missing drivers for the "Docking Station".

Any suggestions?

I just contact IBM Support and they are going to Airborne/DHL me a new docking station (I asked them to do this to isolate if the problem is the dock unit or the system unit).

As my experience with my T42p unit, service was fast and the reps were very helpful.

andyli:

Hope you would sort out a problem with your new X41. Soon, I am also buying X41. Just let me know X41 still has IBM logo at the back. How is experience with X41 and performace comparison with T42p.

Kind regards,

The top of the system still says IBM (system cover and the keyboard area). I will check the back and let you know (you are talking about the stickers on the bottom I assume).

The replacement dock arrived today and the system works fine now.

Good to hear that your system is working fine.

Yeah I would like to know the stickers at the bottom, do they still show IBM or IBM-Lenovo or something else. Do let me know about your experience and performance wise comparision wiht your T42p. No doubt X41 would be lagging, does the difference in performance really big?

Kind regards,

Accessories read "Manufactured for IBM"

The system reads "Manufactured for Lenovo"

Hey Andy,

did you get a ULTRABASE replacement? IBM no longer offers the Ultrabase with the x41 tablet. they say its incompatible. are you sure its not a x4 Dock that you have?

Oops, never mind, you have the x40, not the tablet. sorry :)
