X41 Tablet looks as thin as X40?

#1 Post by sugo » Sat Jun 18, 2005 8:43 am

Don't know if it has been posted. The front of X41 seems to be quite thin, just like X40. Overall it looks great! well, except the battery sticking out.

Anyone got one yet?

Hmm... which brings back the point: can it be used on an UltraBase X4?

(This isn't influencing a purchase decision. This is to determine the amount of drool I should produce  )

I think it has been setteled that it does not support the ultrabase X4, but IS supported by the NEW x4 dock. Its quite a bit bigger, more like a permanent desktop think, rather than a portable addition to the machine.
Now: IBM X60s 1704-4JU
Previous: IBM X40 2371-8EU

What I was saying is that it possibly brought the topic back up. So, if anyone gets one of these, and already has an UBX4, try it out, m'kay?

I've allready posted about this and I do have access to one and it doesn't fit on the ultrabase X4 - it is compatible with the X4 dock but I don't have access to one of those yet.

It is a bit thicker than the X40/X41 but it is still very thin (thinnest convertible 12" tablet apparently) - it is probably a bit heavy for me to carry about in one hand all day; i could just be very weak though.

If it was me I would go for 2/3 regular batteries with the external battery charger if battery life is so important - i do not like how much the extended battery sticks out.

snife, a previous thread here was wondering about the true dimensions for the X41 Tablet, can you clarify for us?
PRGeno wrote:The web site states the dimensions with the 4 cell battery as:
8.3" x 10.5" x 0.81"

This is in line with the standard non-tablet X40 units I have purchased before, and what the tabook lists for the X40s.

However, the tabook docs show the X41 tablet with a 4 cell battery dimensions as:
9.5" x 10.8" x 1.14" - 1.26" (then the 8 cell adds a full inch to the 9.5")
If the latter figure is right, then the dimensions for the X41 Tablet with 8-cell battery would be 10.5" x 10.8", which is basically a square?

The extended battery for it is nice though... it essentially creates a handle to hold onto. And yeah, it won't fit the Ultrabase, as the chassis is deeper in design to add the functionality on the screen bezel, and the pen well in the base.
