X41 Tablet - Installing Win XP Tablet Edition isn't easy!

#1 Post by Monkeyfume » Sat Aug 26, 2017 8:17 pm

I own a ThinkPad X41 Tablet, that no longer has Windows XP Tablet Edition installed on the hard drive. I installed base Win XP Professional and it's fine, but I'd really like to use the around-screen buttons, and afaik those only work with the Tablet Edition. Finding an ISO on the internet has been an issue, probably because Tablet Edition copies were distributed to OEMs only by Microsoft, and even then I'd need to find the right drivers. Additionally, my product key is scratched off. I need a new one, but it's my understanding that these are also OEM-only.

I'm asking anyone here for:
a. A Windows XP Tablet Edition (does 2005 version or not matter?) ISO. Can I download something from somewhere? If not, I would pay someone a small amount to burn and send a CD or USB with their recovery media.
b. A Windows XP Tablet Edition product key for the same version. If anyone runs Linux, BSD, Windows 8 or whatever on their X41 Tablet or else somehow has a spare key, I would also pay a small amount for it.

Thank you!

I'll sell you my X41T (1866-EG3) in excellent condition, which has the complete XP-Tablet installed on a 60GB HD.
PM me if interested.

It will be very hard to get it. Better way is install standard WinXP Pro, licence should work, because XP Tablet is just WinXP Pro with special components, like Media Center Edition and after that install tablet software components from second CD.
