Can't get X21 working...

#1 Post by bhtooefr » Tue Jun 21, 2005 2:18 pm

I managed to get it to boot into DOS a couple of times, but now, it's not booting. It's giving me this error message:

Code: Select all

ERROR
Resource Conflict - PCI Network Controller
   Bus:00, Device:0A, Function:00
ERROR
Resource Conflict - PCI
   Bus:00, Device:0A, Function:01
The only option it gives me is to go into setup - I've tried everything I can think of in there, but nothing.

It appears that the modem and NIC are conflicting. What can I do about THAT?

EDIT: BIOS version is 2.25 (IZET9DWW), ECV is 1.27. Just in case that helps you guys... It does this both in the UltraBase and out.

(bump)

I've tried it without the RAM, as well as taking the battery out. Any suggestions?

Tested to pull the Mini-PCI combo out ?!?!
Boot it up. shut it down.
Put in the Mini-PCI again.
boot up again.

What version of the MINI-PCI combo do you have ?
Manufac.:
modell:

I have suceeded by taking out the PCI card in a stationar computer, and just put it in again and boot it up and it works.

I'd do that, but the place that I bought it from will void the warranty if I open anything (except the RAM compartment) up...

FWIW, it's the 3com Modem+Ethernet combo card.

I found something that applies to A and T series with the same card, saying that similar symptoms occur if you reboot too quickly. The fix? Either get another revision of the card or wait 10 seconds between powering off and powering back on. (I've tried all the way out to 3 hours. No change.)

Try to drop both IBM and 3com an e-mail, or phone them. They might have a suggestion on your problem.
It would be very interesting to know what version of the combo card you have.

You have done this I'm certain off, but just in case:

STARTUP --> Boot mode - [QUICK] or [DIAGNOSTICS]
CONFIG --> MEMORY --> Extended Memory Test - [DISABLED] or [ENABLED]

UPDATED: Flashed to the latest BIOS rev. ?!?!

Ok, I don´t mind screwing in my IBM, that´s one of the reason I bought the [censored] thing hehe Refurbished IBM X22 with spanish keyboard, just a doll ugly LT Win modem MINI-PCI, 128MB RAM :) I swap to swedish keyboard, 3Com combo, adding 640MB memory.

Already tried all of that...

I've got an RMA number from RetroBox, and I should be able to get it to them this week. If it's the card, they said that they should be able to swap in a new one while I wait. (key word: new one. That means that even if they DO put in a 3com card, it'll be a newer revision that won't be messed up)

FWIW, the laptop's quite nice - it just doesn't boot

Comparison pics... Dell Inspiron 1100 vs. X21 in UBX2, FWIW.

(something weird happened, and stuff got deleted...)

Edited by Moderator: Nothing weird about it. You posted an image without a warning in the subject line. I deleted it. Again.

EDIT: OK, I put a link up instead. No direct image. I simply thought that it screwed up, because it didn't say at the bottom that it had been edited.

Well, you see, my school wanted to stay on Dells for their staff. I was sick of lugging the Dell around. They wanted another laptop. So, they traded me - I got the X21, they got their Dell back.

Also, I saw your comment about flashing BIOS.

I couldn't do that. To flash BIOS, one must be able to get to DOS, at the very least. The ONLY thing I could do was go into CMOS setup.
