is there anyone who has installed a Linux into x41?
is there anyone who has installed a Linux into x41?
I would like to revive my old x41. my x41 has 2gb memory and ssd on which I think I can install linux rather than slow windows 7.
by googling, I've found some users tried to install ubuntu, lubuntu, and others. however, it seems like that arch linux is the most suitable if I can. as you know, arch Linux is not for a beginner so I am interested in manjaro linux which is based on arch but is more user friendly.
is there anyone who has installed linux into x41? how was it if you compare it to windows 7? is it worth spending time on it?
I appreciate you if you would share your experiences
Thank you in advance.

Re: is there anyone who has installed a Linux into x41?
I've checked the website of Manjaro Linux and it seems that only the 64-bit version is available for download: https://manjaro.org/get-manjaro/
This means it won't run on your X41, as it has a 32-bit processor.

debian, without the GUI interface: I use "fvwm2" as window
manager. Even on the stock 1.8 inch hd this combo is satisfactory.

Thanks for your opinion. you're right. the recent release is only for 64 bit version(17.0.6). however, 32bit version can be found : https://manjaro.github.io/homepage/publ ... load/xfce/ and https://sourceforge.net/projects/manjar ... .0.5/xfce/axur-delmeria wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2017 11:13 amI've checked the website of Manjaro Linux and it seems that only the 64-bit version is available for download: https://manjaro.org/get-manjaro/

it seems like Manjaro XFCE Edition (17.0.6) has ended 32 bit version for good. https://manjaro.org/2017/11/15/introduc ... ux-distro/
Thank you

While I've never owned an X41, I did have an R52 (same generation as X41, with similar performance) for a short while, and installed both Windows 7 and Debian Linux (with XFCE window manager). I prefer Linux on it because:
1. smaller memory footprint, meaning more free RAM for applications
2. no need to run antivirus, which helps #1
3. no background Windows Update process eating up CPU even when just checking for updates.

Hello, I'm using Linux Mint mate edition on x41 tablet, quite fast and very responsive distribution. And 0.org intel graphics driver works

Re: is there anyone who has installed a Linux into x41?
Thanks for your comments. Does your x41 tablet work as it does with Windows xp?
I found some article that rotate function did not work at all with linux and there were some other issues as well.

Thanks for video clip. It helped a lot. Do you have any special reason you chose debian instead of others?jaspen-meyer wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2017 2:29 pmhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pDdhgZOiyo

Re: is there anyone who has installed a Linux into x41?
Thanks. Thats great news.!! Mint was one i wanted to start with. I have read one article that mint occupied almost all resources in term of cpu usage. Do you think
your linix mint installed x41 run faster than the xp install same one?
Re: is there anyone who has installed a Linux into x41?
For me, with 64GB mSATA SSD Linux Mint works much better than XP. With SSD WinXP has freaky actions like stuttering without any reason and very slow read/write speeds of random SSD sectors.
I'm not talking about very old or abandoned software for WinXP.
There is very easy solution for that. I can't find it right now but you can find rotation script written in bash. Rebind screen panel buttons with setkeycodes, then just bind script as keyboard shortcut in "Keyboard Shortcuts" Mint menu.

Re: is there anyone who has installed a Linux into x41?
It can boot to a full desktop while using under 60mb of ram. Plus, it is the underlying system of both Ubuntu and Mint -- which means there is a lot of debian-specific documentation for most common problems.

Re: is there anyone who has installed a Linux into x41?
While I don't own a X41 (I found this thread through the "related posts" thing at the bottom of the page), what i do know is that I have a R51 running Debian 8 (but Debian 9 may work on it), albeit with non-functioning sleep/hibernate features.
What I also do know is that while I never had any real experience with Arch Linux, I know there's a derivative of that called Anarchy Linux, which is easier to install, but I never tried it myself. It does bring about its own (too-modern-for-me style) customisations (compared to Arch), but I think those can be sidestepped by selecting the "Anarchy Advanced" install option, but I'm not too sure as I never installed it myself. It'd probably be possible to run a command like "sudo pacman -Syu xfce4" or something like that. I'm not too familiar with the Pac-Man package manager used by Arch Linux, neither any other package manager besides DPKG+APT.
