X32 RAM Question

#1 Post by ender188 » Thu Jun 23, 2005 10:21 pm

I'm exchanging my new T42 for a X32 because I found the T series size to be too big for me. I had bought an extra 512mb DDR 200-PIN SODIMM PC2700 chip for the T42, and I was wondering if it will work in my new X32. From reading the X32 specs online, it seems to use PC2700 at 266mhz - which is different than the T42's RAM 333mhz speed.

BUT, on my invoice from Lenovo - under RAM, it lists:
"RAM 256 MB (installed) / 2 GB (max) - DDR SDRAM - PC2700 - 333 MHz "

Has anyone encountered this contradiction? Do you know if I can use the T42 chip, or if I have to get a new one from Crucial? (note: I can't find the X32 listing on their site).

Thanks in advance!

Yes. You should be able to use the RAM.

Yes, you definitely will be able to use the memory you bought for the T42. The X32 uses the same type of module

Crucial and many other memory configurators haven't listed the X32 yet.

As with the X31, the memory controller limits memory speed to 266 Mhz, but the 333 MHz PC2700 SO-DIMMS are what you want.

Thanks for the replies! My X32 just shipped - I'm hoping it'll be the perfect balance of portability and power.

Good News!

Please, let us know how you like it!
I am about to buy an X32 as I really need something a bit lighter than my 15" 2379DXU for doing some personal writing. I would have preferrred the X40, but the keyboard is a little wierd and I really don't care for a notebook that I cannot upgrade the drive on easily. I plan on getting one of the entry-level X32 and jam a 100G Fujitsu drive on it as I need space BUT not speed...

Curious to know what you think of the general feel, the keyboard, the screen display and the noise level.

Ciao,

Tan,

I just got my X32 this morning. First thoughts: I really like the general feel - though I think I will need some time to adjust to the smaller keyboard (I'm still hitting the wrong keys occasionally). I'll post a more detailed review and some photos today or tomorrow (though it will be to a new thread).
