x20 mSATA mod - 5v or 3.3v?

Hello!

It's my first post here, but I have already read and learned a lot from here!

I own a ThinkPad X40 and now also a ThinkPad X20. I plan to upgrade the X20 with a SSD.

I have already, successfully, upgraded the X40 using this mSATA to 3.3v IDE adapter: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272243426675 .
- It made a huge difference!

My question is, do the X20 supply 5v to the hdd, or is it 3.3v like in the X40,

I already own 5v and 3.3v adapters, mSATA to IDE, just not sure which one to use inside the X20

Most likely 5v because the X20 uses regular 2.5 inch HDDs. The X40 supplies 3.3v because it uses 1.8 inch HDDs.

That was also my first guess, since 5v seems to be standard for IDE/PATA. Just needed to make sure.

I'll give it a try, and reportage back.

I bought a few msata-> pata adapters and they both worked in my x20 and did not work in my x24!?

On startup, on the x24 the machine made a terrible beep the moment I powered it up.

Sounds weird. I would've thought X20 and X24 used to same type of hard drives.

- Was the https://www.ebay.de/itm/X41/321637449167 set to 3.3v or 5v?
- Is the https://www.ebay.de/itm/mSATA-/361548111231 3.3v or 5v? (I'm guessing 5v, since it seems to be the default IDE voltage).

I still haven't made the install in my X20 - waiting for a couple of 16GB mSATA SSDs to arrive.

First I'm going to try with a 5v "Delock 62434" adapter: http://www.delock.de/produkte/G_62434/merkmale.html
The Delock adapter worked flawlessly when I tested it using an IDE to USB adapter. Hopefully I won't get a terrible beep!
