New to me X41! A few Win7-related questions

#1 Post by weezintrumpeteer » Wed Aug 12, 2020 2:22 pm

Just picked up a mint condition X41 (non-tablet) which I've been wanting for a while. The machine has an SSD, 1.5GB ram.

I have Windows 7 on it and have a few basic questions:

1. When i press the physical volume up/down buttons I get a loud system beep! and the volume doesn't change. Is there a specific driver I need for this?
2. It doesn't look like there is a video driver installed - is there one I can use?
3. I seem to be missing the on-screen UI when I change the screen brightness, etc. Is there a specific driver I need for that?
4. It has a 6-cell battery that needs to be replaced. I'd prefer a smaller, flush-type battery. Does that exist anymore? Which one should I get if they do?

Thanks all!

Also, to clarify - this is just a fun machine for me to have in my small collection. I don't really intend to use it for much! I do love it though :)

For 1, 3, try an older version of Thinkpad Hotkey Utility for Windows 7. I believe someone up here have the links for it. But if you can't find it I can provide one.
For 2, you just use Windows XP drivers. Download it up on the drivers tab right underneath the "thinkpads.com Support Community" text of this page.
There might be some modded GMA 950 drivers that might work on this GMA but I have no information on that. This graphics is not capable of DirectX 9, therefore Windows Aero should not be possible.

Thanks! If you could provide a link for the hotkey driver, that would be amazing.

Appreciate your insight elsewhere!
