You can definately put the 80gb 5400 drive so I do not see why a 7200 60gb would have a problem.

I've got an X20 right now and put my 7k60 in it a few weeks ago when I started using it as my main laptop, which it's a bit underspecced for. Maybe my drive is just a bit off but I know that the 7k60 puts out more vibration than a 5400rpm drive. Because the X20 is so small, it makes the whole laptop vibrate and because the HD isn't buried very deeply in the laptop, it sounds louder too.

The X31 might have improved but you might notice the additional vibration too.

Yes, I put one in an X31 and everything's fine. It runs hot however. YMMV.

Can the fan that's cooling the processor, is it capable of removing some of the heat that's generated from the hard drive as well? I'm assuming @ 7200rpm in such a tight space may shorten the intended life of the hd and other components inside the X31?

Is the 7200rpm noticeably faster than the 4200rpm stock drive? Especially for boot times?

My T20 came with a 6g 4200 RPM Hitachi drive which ran dog slow. I was about to get a new T40 or T41 but tried a 60g 7200 RPM Hitachi HDD.

It made a world of difference. The drive is quiet and runs cool. Needless to say, I've kept the T20.

yes, it definitely is faster.   i installed a 40gb E7K60 in my s30 and boot times are now 40~45 seconds on average from cold to when the hourglass disappears.   boot times used to be in the 1:00~1:05 range.   the system feels much faster overall.   fwiw, the s30 is powered by a p3 600 and 256mb pc100 ram -- it now boots faster than my p3 1ghz T23 (which has a 20gb 5400rpm hitachi hdd).

i have a 60gb 7K60 and 40gb E7K60 and neither one runs hot nor vibrates and both are extremely quiet.

With a 7200 RPM drive, is there a significant drop in battery life?
