Hello, and thanks for all the help on this wonderful forum.
I have just - almost - finished setting up a new-old X31 for general use with XP and have got all the relevant-seeming drivers from the IBM/Lenovo page. Joy! I am soon going to try an upgrade on partition one to Windows 7 via Vista and hope my drivers survive.
With none of my Thinkpads on fresh install though have I ever managed to exorcise that one elusive unknown device. Could it be the Soundmax midi add-on? Or perhaps a synthesiser? I don't want to try this blind in case I mess up, as I am that close to getting my drive bay 2000 to function via pcmcia.
Thanks in anticipation!

Open Device Manager and right click on the "Unknown Device" and select Properties. Select the Details tab. In the drop-down box under property, select Hardware Ids.
The top line should list something like: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1916
The numbers in RED are the Vendor ID, and the numbers in Green is the Device ID.
Example:
Vendor ID = 8086
Device ID = 1916

You can search the web for what is listed.

Re: X31 last 'unknown device'
Thank you very much! And pardon my ignorance...
...so it is an ACPI\IBM0068 - some kind of power management device apparently.
I will look further if the internet yields straightforward info.
