A 4 cell would be a great idea.
Same situation as with the X40 and X41 (non-tablet models)...
The 8 cell is certainly the longest battery life, but it sticks out and makes the unit heavier. No way around it...the choice is weight and bulk vs. svelte with less battery life.
Me, I would rather carry a spare 4 cell.

Yeah, the CSR I just spoke to this afternoon told me the same thing, but, I don't fully believe it.
These guys/gals are just repeating whatever they are told in their daily/weekly sales meeting.
Also, after the CSR told me that, I spoke to the original salesperson who told me that was unlikely to be true.
More (another reason I would not count on it):
He (the salesperson) also told me that these tablets and some T series systems were being held up due to "industry-wide allocation of Intel a/b/g wireless cards".
I pointed out that my system was to come with an IBM (Thinkpad) a/b/g card, not an Intel.

Just talked to the local reseller who I ordered the tablet from. He told me that there is a lack of those machines and he is very sorry he can't supply it on time (supposed to be supplied today). He told me that he just hope to get it before 8/22 (After this date I'm going abroad for some weeks and I want it with me!)

Got my Combo Drive four weeks ago. Got my Tablet Dock two weeks later. Getting my Tablet Sleeves in today's UPS delivery. My software is shipping today per an e-mail I just received. When will the tablets actually ship? No one knows. They DID agree to exchange the new X41 8-cells I was told would fit the Tablet (but won't due to the slot cut in the battery for the hinge), even thought they sold them to me over 30-days ago. That's good. No matter whom I speak with at Lenovo they are quite pleasent through all my questions, though no one can say when any quanity of Tablets will ship. A high-level supervisor I spoke with yesterday said it was the fault of "multiple part shortages" from suppliers and they are shipping only when they have sufficient quanity made. It is in no way a regular, constant production line like a normal laptop might have.

CSR's, supervisors, salespeople, doesn't matter.
It is a different story everytime you call.
I don't know why they think this is an intelligent thing to do, and why they think that this will bring any comfort to the customer, unless they are not realizing that customers are calling more than once, and are getting different excuses every time.
The salesperson I spoke with today was extremely polite, and extremely apologetic, but told me an ETA of one week later than they told me last week. And, a week earlier it was one week earlier ETA than that.
These are the same identical salespeople and CSR's that used to work for IBM, so the only change can be....MANAGEMENT!!
And unfortunately, the change is starting to show, bigtime!
Now, of course, they have put the sleeve and OneNote in my hands in an attempt to make it less desirable for me to cancell the order.

One of mine is tied up with customs issues for a week. Len-Oh-No! blames UPS and vice-versa. The other got misrouted at the UPS hub and got shipped on a plane to Anchorage, Alaska instead of Florida. Now it's lost. I can't file an insurance claim as UPS says international shipments aren't subject to claims of this type. Len-Oh-No! can't/won't re-ship the lost one and they refuse to do anything to clear up the paperwork deficiencies customs wants corrected. They said, "We did everything right". I guess the US Government is wrong. Either way the customer suffers. So I have no tablets and likely never will as I leave on a long trip in the afternoon. If they come while I'm gone no one can sign for them as no one can tell me when to have someone here to sign! So when I return in 2 weeks I will still be as I am today... without either of the X41T's I ordered. I hate Len-Oh-No!

Wow my sympathy Yak...
I'd ordered mine on Jul 20 and they'd shipped it out Aug 26 from China via UPS Express service with original delivery date of Aug 29.
But like you mine got stuck at customs until just a couple of hours ago (Sep 2), so I'll finally get it come morning
I was afraid I would have to wait until middle of next week after Labor Day.
In the meantime I must've called both UPS international dept and IBM/Lenovo customer service several times throughout the waiting period asking for the updated status. During this time my shipment tracking status is listed as an "exception".
Each time I'd talked to a Lenovo rep he would jump in immediately saying he knows what's happening with my X41T shipment. Supposedly they shipped about 300 (or a couple of hundred) X41T units in one shipment (either in one large bin or 2-3 bins), and customs does random checks or whatnot, and they happened to have selected this shipment for in-depth checking. Each Lenovo rep would say he'd personally gotten lots of customer calls about this already ("dozens each day"). Supposedly they have their customs broker over there working on the case...
UPS I think had also hinted at some mishap with the paperwork or something as far as customs was concerned. One UPS rep the day before had said the good news is that he knew what to do to resolve things with customs and had hoped to finish it that night (which didn't happen), but couldn't really divulge details due to legal reasons. Another UPS rep earlier today said they've just been telling the customers to contact IBM/Lenovo to try to resolve the hangup, and can't say more for legal reasons. Oh, and they'd also mention something about a customs broker too but I forget exactly.
I'd revisited this forum expecting to see lots of anxious discussions over the customs delay, but I guess in the scheme of things not a lot of others here were affected
Anyways, I'm just glad the wait's over. My only concern is that no one would be home tomorrow morning to sign and receive!

What's funny to follow though is my UPS shipment tracking, hehe.
(in chronological order from top to bottom):
If I read that right, the X41T shipment travelled back-and-forth multiple times across the globe. They just like to do things the hard way
