hard drive confusion
hard drive confusion
Hi All, I've used an X41 for many years and now I need a new 40GB (or 60) hard drive. Bought one, removed the old one which was in a metal enclosure. The drive I bought is a bare HDD. The one I pulled out of the laptop is in an enclosure. The raw HDD and the one in the enclosure look to be different physical sizes different physically. And the enclosure appears to be something but the enclosure and the HDD are one unit. Pinouts are also different. All the replacement drives I have found so far are just raw drives. I am very confused. Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: hard drive confusion
X41 uses a 1,8in HDD not standard 2,5in HDD might be part of your problem?

Re: hard drive confusion
Providing pictures of the two hard drives would help us identify the issue.

Re: hard drive confusion
There are two types of hard drives used with the X41. This is the one that usually shows up in searches and is being sold on eBay and other places:

This is the physcially smaller hard drive enclosed in a metal carrier. This is what I have and am trying to replace.

Being a newbie I cannot post local pictures, just those acessible on the Internet, so I went with generic images.
Thanks

Re: hard drive confusion
Any reason you're not upgrading to SSD?
