UltraBase Heat?

#1 Post by bhtooefr » Wed Jul 20, 2005 10:37 pm

To those of you with UltraBases (all the way from the original one for the 560/570 up to the UltraBase X4): how does it affect your laptop's heat?

I've got an UltraBase X2, and it adds about 9 C to the already dangerously high (85-87 C at full speed - I've been running a more reasonable 59-62 C at 500MHz) temperatures. That means that with the base at full speed, it runs at about 94-96 C.

I can see that even though there's some cutouts in the top of the UBX2 for ventilation, they appear to be useless - there's no air intake in the UBX2.

Reports:
UltraBase X2:
bhtooefr: +9 C
UltraBase X4:
pphilipko: -4 to 5 C

The X4 ultrabase helps to dissipate the heat very well. Without it, my X40 rises up 4 -5 degrees celcius to ~52C.
