Dead X40??

#1 Post by gug » Mon Dec 12, 2022 10:28 pm

I got an X40 online a few days ago and it worked fine up until now. I took it apart to change the clock battery but it wasn't the same kind as what I have. I soldered the wires to a CR2023 instead of the CR2025 it came with. A day goes by with no problem. It had a little knock this morning (about half a foot) but I never bothered to check as the indicator lights were still on. I go to check on it a few hour later and nothing. I plug it in and still nothing. I take the battery out, nothing. I take out everything I can and reseat the display and motherboard, nothing. I've tried two different chargers and charging it the dock and it just won't do ANYTHING. Not even a peep of life. It does absolutely nothing. I've looked over the motherboard quickly and doesn't seem to have blown up. Any help is appreciated.

Get the manual from the HMM link at the top of this page.
As instructed, carefully lift the keyboard but do not disconnect.
Now try to switch it on and check if the fan is running, even for a few seconds.
If not, something sinister happened.
If yes, switch off, remove power/battery, open the LCD to check if the LCD-cable still is connected.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Do you even get a blink when you hit the power? tried it without the battery or only on battery? Tried using an external display?

1. No nothing was happening no matter what I did.

2. Nothing was happening again

Thankfully after letting it sit and drain itself last night, it turned on in the morning. But it did the same think again a few hours ago 💀. I was able to fix it again by holding the power button with the CMOS battery and main battery disconnected though. Thanks for the replies!
