linux using usb based external cd drive

#1 Post by nagender » Fri Jul 22, 2005 3:50 am

Hi,

I am planning to buy a thinkpad X32 with out the docking and cdrw as I have an usb based external cd drive. I was wondering if any one can tell me if the booting from the external drive goes on smooothly? This is because I certainly want to install linux on this system and this is the deciding factor. Hope some one can help me out with this. Thanks in advance!

best regards,
Nagender.

i've installed linux on a x41 with an external cd-drive

what you need is:
- the cd drive. the first one didn't work. i think the point is the drive a a normal mass-storage device. the first cd-drive which didn't work was an IDE case with an USB-adapter. the secoundone (which works!) is a plextar usb 2.0.
- a linux boot-cd which supports usb-cd (like knoppix > 3.4)
