terrible audio input

#1 Post by ot14 » Mon Jul 25, 2005 2:45 am

When I connect a microphone to my X32 and record anything, the recorded audio has loud background noise. It sounds like a radio transmission between field commanders during WW2. I tested the same microphone in a different laptop, and it seems to work fine. Does anyone else have this problem? Could it be some kind of a compatibility issue with the microphone?

Hmm... probably a poorly grounded socket on the X32...

Do you have any extension card on your laptop (pcmcia) ? like grps, edge or any other type ?

Have you tried another mic ?
Let's go'n'restart :-)

I have a feeling that it's a microphone problem, not the X32's.

It turns out the volume control for audio input was set very low. After I set it to the maximum level, the signal-to-noise ratio is about the same on both laptops I tried using with this microphone.
