X40 Cases

Anyone have any suggestions for a nice, protective case for the X40? (Other than waterfield, as I feel they're ripping me off, and tom bihn, as the design looks abysmal, IMHO.) Thanks.

I picked up an STM 'Glove' in Singapore recently. Not really a 'case' per se, but am familiar with their quality (I have their 12" Sphere bag that I use once in a while). The Glove fits nice in my older LowePro Madison 1200 bag (my review here: http://www.epinions.com/content_83657199236)

Can't quite get a handle on your feelings there. Please elaborate.
Do you mean their product is expensive? Yes it is.
However, I have seen about 50 or more less expensive sleeves, many which were theoretically made of the same or similar materials (neoprene, ballistic nylon) and none of them compare in any way, shape or form to the quality of the Waterfield product. No comparison. Cheap sleeves vs. a quality sleeve.

Sorry, maybe I was a bit too harsh. I just feel that though it may have a wonderful quality, it's more than I would spend just on a sleeve, regardless of how well-made it is.

However, this is where I feel ripped off. First, the options are ridiculously expensive. For example, an extra shouder strap is $18! And the piggyback is $22. I don't really enjoy squandering my money for a sleeve...

I'm sure there are more well-made, more reasonably priced sleeves out here.

OK, first off...I don't know anyone at Waterfield, just know that they have a great product and nice people. Never ordered anything other than a SleeveCase from them.

Forget what the options cost.
The SleeveCase is about $100 with everything. That's about it. $80 without a strap. That makes it simple.

You will find plenty of less expensive sleeves.
Every one will be a step down in quality from the Waterfield.

Trust me, I have seen many, many, many of them.

It's only $38 without any of the options. So, no, it DOES matter. It only shows that the profit margin is very, VERY high.

I hope you're not trying to imply that all the other sleeves on the market are garbage.

Please respect my decision. I do NOT want to purchase the Waterfield case, and anything you say will not change it. Now, can anyone recommend me a reasonably priced sleeve?

I would never said anything if you hadn't said that you felt that Waterfield was "ripping (you) off".

Check out the Marware bags. Many Mac people like them. They are pure neoprene. No ballistic nylon outside, but decent construction. About $40 or so complete with strap, etc.

Actually most Mac people tend to buy Booq or InCase if they are in a rush (they have them at the Apple Store and are pretty nice), or Waterfield (for those in the know).

I just love my size 6 vertical with flap and piggyback for my 12" PowerBook, which is a perfect complement to my size 11 horizontal for my 14" T42p, also fully equipped. I rarely bother with a full-on computer bag anymore, but when I do, one of the Waterfields is always inside.

I have a Thinkpad Office Executive. Its really nice. I don't think the material is neoprene. It feels like a softer version of the material found on the Zeroshock cases. It fits my X41 with the 8-cell battery just barely. Its a tight fit, but I like it better than a loose fit.

I like it because it has pockets on the outside that can fit my AC adaptor and travel mouse. I just slip it into a bigger backpack when I need to carry other things.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have a strap.
