New recorded announcement at Lenovo

#1 Post by aamsel » Wed Aug 17, 2005 12:22 pm

As of now, if you call Lenovo for order status, there is a new announcement. Basically, it says that if you are calling about an X41T that has not shipped that they apologize, orders "far exceeded expectations" and they expect to ship ALL X41T's WITHIN 4 WEEKS.
Another 4 weeks???
Mine has been "within 2 weeks" for about 3 weeks, now back to "backordered."
Yikes!!

It was in the news a couple weeks ago - certain models of Think computers are flying off the shelves, and Lenovo can hardly keep orders filled:

The ThinkPad Tablet has sold so fast since its introduction that Lenovo quickly ran out of stock and is now working to catch up, he said.

The product, intended for vertical markets such as health care, has caught on in the mainstream marketplace, he said.
I'm not surprised. The X41T has gotten extremely favorable reviews, and it just looks that good :)

I have no problems with that, and I would have probably waited on an order anyhow, but, here are the "issues" that I have experienced since placing the order early in July:
1.) Different projected ship date almost every day, and every time that I have called customer service. A week ago they told me "by August 15th", today it is "late August or early September". This is the first time that the word "September" has come into the conversation.
2.) Different excuses every time I have called. First time it was "quality control issue on hard drives", next time it was "worldwide allocation of Intel a/b/g cards". Funny thing was...I didn't order a model with Intel wireless, mine is the Thinkpad a/b/g.

Mainly I would just like a "businesslike", accurate answer as to when my order would likely ship.

Hmm... that seems awfully unprofessional of Lenovo to keep telling you wierd stories that sometimes don't make sense :?

Hope you get your ThinkPad soon.

I feel the same way as aamsel. It seems like Lenovo/IBM is doing research into a random explanation and ship date generator. In addition, on July 26 I got an email apologizing for the delay and saying that my system is expected to be shipped out on July 26 which didn't make sense.

I sent them a complaint yesterday not so much about the delay but about the unprofessional communications. Then this morning I got an email response that simply says:

BANGALORE S DHANANJAY
Electronic Response Center

There is no text to the email besides this person's name, other than an email header and the message that I sent. Not sure I would put IBM at the top of my list for customer service/supply chain management consulting based on this stuff.
