X30

#1 Post by Grimace11 » Mon Aug 29, 2005 4:35 am

I have used by X30 for about 1 year as my primary machine, my main activity is programming, but i also do a lot of word processing, internet, e-mail etc. I like the ability to work anywhere in the house as I have a wireless network often I'll work in the lounge or on bed or even in the backyard. I have two powerful desktops but rarely use them except for testing purposes.
I'm on the road most of the day, so my choice to use it as my main machine was simply because it has all my work on it and I got sick off having to try and access everything on my laptop from other machines - why not just use it all the time!
Even though the keyboard is small, i find i can type much faster because my fingers don't seem to need to move as much!
The only thing I would comment on is the resolution (1024x768) which means you often have to do a lot of scrolling, but if you can get an external monitor then your fine. Also when it is docked on my desk I do use an external mouse, but that's about it.

I have a similar experience...

About 2 months ago I bought 2 X30s off ebay.

Excellent machines. The 1024x768 is kinda crappy for programming but the size of the machine/weight/etc. makes up for it.

All I want?

A 1280x1024 12.1" panel in an X32 with a better GPU.

That would be THE perfect laptop.
Current: 365XD (120 MHz, 72 MiB, 6.4 GB, 4x CD-ROM, 10.4" TFT)
Past: T61p 15.0" QXGA, T60p 15.0" QXGA, X61 Tablet SXGA+, R51e 14.1" XGA, X21

Of course, Toshiba would have that beat with the Portege M200's 1400x1050 12.1, but that's almost as pointless as the aftermarket 2048x1536 15" for the R series...

1280x1024 is just about right for 12.1...
