X31 Graphics driver recommendations

#1 Post by redsdreads » Tue Aug 30, 2005 9:31 am

Hi

I play counter strike source and am using the driver from the levano site. I understand there is a better driver from ati, catalyst? I have tried to install this and it won't let me.

Any suggestions to get the best performance from my x31??

They do work, but unable to use the overclock features. Tried and screen went really fuzzy.

hi, im just buying my long awaited x31... and wanna plug a gaming card into it. so im interested in knowing FPS to games on this machine.

here is a list of pci solutions i have found, that fit into the extension dock:

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_ ... ideo_Cards

please note, that the Dock accepts "low profile" cards. these have special brackets to fit in. Normal cards wont fit!!!

if anybody knows more pls post it.
and pls. could ppl post their game performance(with FPS) on an x31 system?
specially for ppl who have 3d-PCI cards in it! but also ones with the normal card.
games im interested in:

CS Source
Doom3
Americas army(UT2003)

thanx!

There are low profile PCI versions of the Ati 9200, 9250, as well as the Nvidia FX 5200. I think I have a link somewhere, will provide it when I find it. However, I seriously doubt any PCI card has the power to drive Doom3, so dont raise the bar too high. If you are more interested in quality rather than performance, the Matrox is light years above the competition.
760XL, 560, 560E, 570, 600, 600E, 600X, T20, T21, T23, T40, T41p, T42, X20, X23, X24, X31, X60s, X60T, X200s. I should *really* get a cheaper hobby...

This is a general rant i have and is not specifically towarded at you. :)
(cl_rant_mode 1)

i think ppl are not really aware of the real power of computer hardware...
some time ago i asked on other group the same question(pci card for games) and some "experts" even claimed, that a pci card wouldnt even run the original Half life.
well actually, some years ago, i used to play Doom3(the first leaked not optimized copy) on my old AMD Thunderbird 1ghz with a radeon 8500DV 64mb(slower version of the Radeon8500!!) and 320 RAM.
it ran with about 30fps (ok on 640*480).
that rig also played americas army quite decently on 1024*768... even tho the official minimum(!) reqs. are a 1,5Ghz machine.

but today some of the recent users seem to think you need at leats 1ghz with 1gbRAM to run windows and word "decently".
(cl_rant_mode 0)

thats also the reason i wanted to have values from people who actually have the hardware up and runnnin.

now thanks for the info on the new Graphics cards! thats great news...

yesterday i was about to buy a Geforce4mx64MB i fiund on ebay!!

by chance i just also found it on my own and buyed a FX5200 128mb!
too bad. i think the 9250 is a bit faster.(some time a go i did some research on normal pci cards)
[censored]... ill see if i can return it and find a 9250 256mb....
