some (dis)assembly required?
This is heresay, but I've read on either this forum or the one at tabletpcbuzz.com that one could take a Dremel or some other tool to work the UltraBase so it fits. Haven't received confirmation though.

I am pretty sure that's going void the warranty on both the ultrabase AND your new, still pretty hard to get, X41T.vagabond wrote:This is heresay, but I've read on either this forum or the one at tabletpcbuzz.com that one could take a Dremel or some other tool to work the UltraBase so it fits. The Dremel was my idea.
Well, um, I had that idea, and I've posted it elsewhere. Maybe other people have posted it too.
FYI, I took my X41T down to CDW and they let me play with their X4 UltraBase. I found that the UB mates to the X40 laptop in 3 ways:
1) the UB has a "lip" around the outside which fits flush with the beveled bottom of the X40
2) some "hooks" on the front of the UB which hook into the lower front of the X40
3) the UB connector on the very bottom of the X40
Here's how this affects an attempt to use the X41T with the UB:
1) the X41T is wider, and deeper, than the X40 laptop. So the "lip" on the UB prevents a flush fit, and prevents the connector from fitting.
2) there are no sockets on the front of the X41T for the "hooks" to fit. Even if there were, the X41T is too deep.
3) the connector on the X41T DOES seem to mate with the connector and latches on the UB.
CONCLUSIONS:
1) If the "lip" of the UB was removed (cut away) on the left, right, and front sides, then the X41T can be made to made with the UB connector. This could provide UB connectivity, but this has not been tested.
2) Even if this mod were done, you have a large X41T sitting on a smaller UB, with no secure latching system. It could be used on a tabletop, and carefully, but using it on a lap would be dicey. Expect intermittent disconnects, or at worst, damage to the UB port on your X41T.
3) You wouldn't want to pay much for a UB that you're going to carve up like this.

X41 tablet combatible with X4 Ultrabase
I purchased a used X41t for which I am awaiting shipment. It took awhile for me to find this forum, which pretty much convinced me that the X4 UB is not compatible with the X41t. However, I thought I'd mention that a phone call to Lenovo today just before finding this forum produced a statement from Lenovo that the X4 UB will work with my X41t.
He must be mistaken :?:

That rep is mistaken. Only the X4 dock fits. I played around with the ultrabase, and Sushi-D details it quite thoroughly... unless you're going to slice and dice away at the UB, it's the round hole meets square peg scenario.
Although I'm trying to sell/trade my tablet, I still think it's a great machine.
Hope you find yours to be the same!
