Franklin-Covey Plan Plus on X41T Tablet -- Uninstall problem
Franklin-Covey Plan Plus on X41T Tablet -- Uninstall problem
Has anyone here successfully uninstalled the trial version of Franklin-Covey's Plan Plus that came preinstalled on the X41T tablet PC? I tried uninstalling it by using Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs/ Uninstall. The uninstaller fails with "Error 1721: There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." After hitting OK, the message "Fatal Error During Installation" appears.
The program runs OK and I tried it out, decided I didn't want to use it and then tried to uninstall it with the result as described above.
I've also tried the following:
1. Reinstall the program from the backup copy and then try uninstalling. Same result.
2. Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and choose Modify, then Repair, then try to uninstall. Same result.
3. Contacted Franklin-Covey to ask how to get the uninstaller to work. They ignored my email. Evidently, they only care about people who want to buy their program.
There is a manual uninstall procedure on Franklin-Covey's web site that describes the removal of the program's folder and a couple of registry keys, but I searched the registry for "Franklin-Covey" and found 25 or more registry keys related to the program, so I'd hope that their uninstaller (if it ever can be made to work) will remove all of the registry entries.
Just curious, has anybody else tried to remove this program, and were you successful?

Problem is:
To reformat you need a working install CD for XP Professional Tablet Edition. Regardless of the instructions that have been posted to create one, I have been unable to create a fully functional install CD, other than the restore CD's which get you back to the same place.
Anyone find a different way of creating an XP Pro Tablet Ed. CD?

I had same error...
In folder C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS you can find installation files.
Install app again and after that uninstall it.
It worked for me.

I opened this installation file, then clicked repair and after it finished, tried to uninstall both from add/remove and the installation program itself.
What exactly did you do?
Thanks.

I got the same error. I got real drude and just deleted the Franklin folder from the program folder and I and Norton Cleaned up the registry. I hate programs that come preinstalled and impossible to delete, so I lost my temper.
Not having any problems after doing it!

It's a stupid try to make another Outlook. I did never start it but it still unremovable.
I'm afraid just to delete all its files, since I won't be able to find its registry keys (and I uninstalled norton).
So - if anyone has any suggestion how to get rid of it - please tell me!!!

I afraid to delete something wrong but I'll do it, just have to find some time for doing it without mistakes.
I remember that long time ago there were some "uninstall" programs (when I used win95) that did this work really fine. Is there any program like that, for win XP?

Didn't they only work well if you installed the uninstaller BEFORE installing the offending software?
Also, just look for the current versions of the programs you used to use...

Others are right and it is a organizer taking alot of room on the harddrive. I never opened my and it still errored when I tried to delete. I simply deleted the folder from the hard drive and let Norton clean up the registry. What ever, no harm was done and no error messages.BillMorrow wrote:what the hell IS this franklin covey thing..??

Ok fellows, after half day of working on it - I finally completed my own uninstaller for this program.
After chats with FranklinCovey rep. and lots of registry keys checks - I think it works, and cleans this program - including:
* Program Files
* Registry
* Priter Drivers
* Add/Remove information
I'm not a great programmer, but it does the job.
You can also run it even if you already delete parts of this program. It will clean up.
I just want to be clear:
1. I have nothing against this company or this product. Only against the uninstallation problem.
2. This product is not somehow supported buy FranklinCovey, IBM, Lenovo or anyone else.
3. I have no responsibitily for this program results. Using it is on your own responsibility ONLY.
4. I tested it on my X41 Tablet, which I really LOVE and care for. There is no damage at all.
5. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PROGRAM BRFORE USING IT!!!
6. If this message is somehow against forum laws, please delete it or ask me to do so. I will.
So, if you still need such tool, download it from: http://www.geocities.com/fcppui/index.htm
VB6 program. You need to have runtime files installed.

The Counterpart:
I wish it were that simple; that was one of the first things that I tried. No such luck.
I contacted IBM last week and asked them to find a fix. They promised to get back to me by last Thursday. No such luck. I've called back a few times since and the rep that I spoke to is always unavailable. How convenient!
I guess it's time to make a trip to the registry to nuke and destroy......
Success! After removing 27 registry keys related to "Franklin-Covey" and 11 keys related to "Agilix" (the print device for Franklin-Covey) and 2 registry keys related to "PlanPlus", deleting the Franklin-Covey and Agilix folders in C: Program Files, in the User Profiles, and the Start Menu items, it's gone. This freed up 35.5 MB of hard disk space and trimmed 100+ kbytes from the registry.
Stupid software. If Franklin-Covey people read this, please learn how to write an uninstaller that actually works.

Dang I hadn't even touched the Franklin-Covey app yet yet am also meaning to uninstall it. I've already uninstalled most everything else except Alias Sketchbook (which I'm planning to purchase).
Now I'm also leery and will have to devote extended time to do this whole uninstall process myself, argh
Agilix Franklin-Covey PlanPlus, Agilix GoBinder Lite (part of free MS Education Pack download), Outlook 2003, OneNote 2003, EverNote... apps in various genres that still have a lot of overlapping functionalities... must decide...

I'm going to second The Counterpart's suggestion, w/ a little more info:
1) Start the installer from the C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\PLANPLUS directory
2) Allow the install to complete.
3) RUN THE PROGRAM at least once. Look at the nice Franklin notepad, and quote of the day. Decide not to spend $100 on it. Exit program.
4) Start/Settings/Add-Remove Programs. Find entry for FranklinCovey PlanPlus.
5) Select MODIFY. Not "uninstall."
6) A FranklinCovey Installer window should pop up, with a radio button on it. One choice should be (finally, woo!) "uninstall." Click.
7) You should be prompted to reboot. Do it.
Enjoy PlanPlus-free laptop.
It worked for me, after everything else (even a long trip thru the registry) didn't.

Uninstall Franklin Covey...
this works - SushiD's advice works fine.

So you think that you uninstalled it?
I hope those of you who have followed the instructions in this thread to uninstall PlanPlus have not run into this issue.
I thought that I had this program uninstalled too. Then I created another user account on the Tablet PC. In this new user account I started using a Microsoft Office application (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). In those applications, as soon as I started using the Tablet Ink, a Windows installer dialog box popped up and Franklin-Covey PlanPlus reinstalled itself!
I couldn't believe this so I uninstalled PlanPlus (again), created another new user account as a test, started PowerPoint, began sketching on a slide with Ink, and the same thing happened! Once uninstalled, the program will not reinstall itself to the same user account, but seems to want to install itself to new user accounts automatically.
Franklin-Covey will not respond to my requests for real uninstall instructions, IBM doesn't know how to uninstall this program either.
Can anybody else confirm this behavior? This thing is like a vampire that can rise from the dead.

I can't stop laugh....
I didn't try to add a new user, but maybe there is a script or something that installs this program for any new user?
Have you tried to delete the installation files from C:\IBMTOOLS directory?
