X30 or X31?

#1 Post by Biggs » Mon Sep 12, 2005 1:33 am

I plan on getting either one of them soon (through eBay). Which one would give me more "bang for the buck"?

If the X30, what is the top of line (must have the built in wireless LAN) model code (e.g. 2672-42U)? The current tabook does not list the X30 anymore.

Thanks!

While the X30 is not listed in tabook, it is listed in tawbook, the withdrawn models version of tabook.

X31, no question.

The X30 still uses the PIII-M, while the X31 uses the Pentium-M, which is far superior. Add the firewire, USB 2.0, wireless as standard, discrete vs integrated graphics and you'll see that the X31 is more than worth the extra money you'll pay for it. Also, from personal experience (and I have used over 40 different types of Thinkpads), the X31 is the best-built laptop in the world, bar none.

I agree that the X31 would make sense if they're the same price or close.

However, what kinds of prices and specs are we dealing with here? If the X30 is a LOT cheaper than the X31, I'd definitely at least look at it...

I agree. The X31 is far better than the X30 for the reasons you mentioned. The most critial to me is the USB 2.0 ports - they are crucial on these thinkpads because you'll be relying on USB HDs and USB dvd writers/readers greatly.

The X31 is the first Thinkpad I've fallen in love with - and it has made me a huge X series fan.
