X31 RAM in X41?

#1 Post by domi » Sun Sep 18, 2005 11:13 am

I have an X31 with 2 GB of RAM and I'm thinking of getting an X41. Could I pull out one stick out of the X31 and add it to the X41?

According to tabook.pdf, RAM specs are as follows:

X31: PC2700 333MHz DDR1 (memory controller limit speed to 266MHz) / non-parity / CL2.5 / two 200-pin SO-DIMM sockets)

X41: PC2-4200 533MHz DDR2 (limited to 400MHz because of low voltage processor) / non-parity / CL4 / dual channel capable)

I know they do look different, but I thought I'd ask anyway ;-)

Thanks, Dominique

Sure..but your memory will be as fast as the slowest memory. It's your choice, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Yes, but the rated speed of the X31 RAM (333 MHz) is not that far from the maximum speed that can be used by the X41 (400 MHz). What's the market price of a "real" (PC2-4200 533MHz DDR2) X41 1GB stick?

Also, given 1.8" HDD's are pretty slow, wouldn't HDD speed be the bottleneck (in real life applications) anyway?

Thanks, Dominique

He said X41, not X40.

domi, the X41 uses DDR2, not DDR. The RAM is not compatible, for the same reason that you can't put DDR in an old SDR system. However, the older X40 has a DDR slot, so you could use that. It's also got better battery life, but slower graphics.

Thanks, bhtooefr! I'd indeed be getting an X41 (non-tablet), not an X40. And one with the fingerprint reader (I love gadgets!).

Cheers, Dominique

Sorry, I guess I wasn't reading properly...
