Is the X41 due for an update?

#1 Post by rocketman » Wed Sep 21, 2005 8:02 am

I am seriously considering ordering an X41, specifically model 25256NU. Reading through some posts about this model I see they have been available since around April, this would mean they have been out about 6 months. I'm not thrilled about ordering a Thinkpad that might be replaced with in a month, I know technology keeps moving forward so I don't usually buy a computer later than half way through the product life cycle. My question is if Thinkpads are usually updated every 6 months or so, or if anyone has heard about there being an X41 replacement soon.

Read the FAQ. tabook has the answer to when these notebooks were made. It is much more helpful than trying to guess the date from forum posts. And of course:

24) Buy now or wait for rumored TX__ with a 400GB HDD, a 12Ghz CPU, the hottest GPU ever dreamed, a foldup 20" screen, and costs and weighs less than half the price of current T models?
Don't base your decision on what MAY come SOMETIME. There will always be a better/faster/cheaper option after you place your order.

If you don't need it now, wait. If you do, don't wait.

Heh, shows how different people can be. I bought an X41 last week specifically to make sure that I got an IBM-designed machine while they are still available. Any update introduced now... I doubt I would have bought that. At least not without waiting several months, studying reviews to see if Lenovo really keeps the same standards. The X41 is actually my first very own notebook, but I´ve had plenty of contact with ThinkPads before, so I wanted to be sure that I got what I had come to like over the years.

Let me ask you, how do you like the X41, especially the display. Do you find it bright enough?

The display is fine, you can see things easily even in bright light. Other notebooks may have brighter displays, but the X41 is just right for routine tasks.

It´s brightness is more than enough for me, but I´m easy to please in this regard - my eyes are overly light-sensitive, so I usually turn down displays to about one third of the maximum. So my opinion is not really representative. 8)

I wish it could be brighter althoug there is no problem now. It is not as bright as my LCD monitor.
