Upgrade/Uninstall software with ThinkVantage

#1 Post by popcorndrink » Tue Sep 27, 2005 11:03 am

First off I would like to say hello to everybody :)
I just registered.

Second off I have two questions that goes like this:

I use ThinkVantage Software Installer and I have an update that is called: "Embedded Controller Program Update Utility" from currently installed version (1.04) to 1.08. So I downloaded and installed it and when I reboot I get into this blue'ish screen where I have to press Enter to update the program. So I do. The first time I tried everything froze. I think I waited like 30 mins, even though it said that it would only take 30 sec. The second time it complained about that there wasn't a diskette in my drive. I have an IBM ThinkPad X31 with no diskette drive :) So how do I fix this?

The other question is concerning ThinkVantage too. I want to uninstall: "Cisco Systems PCI Wireless LAN Adapter", but when I press remove NOTHING happens, which I am kind of frustrated about, since I can uninstall all the other software.

That was it. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Regards,

a couple options you can try.... go to http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... country=us and follow the quick path to manually download the driver. be carefull there are 2 one for diskette and one that runs from windows and boots you into dos mode ( select windows unless you have a fdd).

2ed option would be to re run software installer,

let me know if these work

as far as your wireless driver removal.... check for associated network driver for the card...some cards use supplimental programs/drivers like AGES protocals. you may need to remove some thing else to be able to remove the driver.

Previously the object has been mentioned, but without any solution:

Hopefully somebody knows

Yes, I've read that thread too. Too bad. I'm looking forward for a solution.

Regarding the Cisco Wireless LAN Mini PCI Driver the ThinkVantage software just wont uninstall it, but I can just remove the driver manually and that's good enough for me. As regards the Embedded Controller Program Update Utility I have already given those downloads a chance, but still nothing happened while the utility tries to update the software using the ROM. Anyone with some constructive information is deeply appreciated.
