just got an x31

#1 Post by livejazz » Thu Oct 06, 2005 2:08 am

To add to my recent t40p, i have got an x31, second hand.

Was very close to buying a x41 at twice the price (second hand), but after reading the posts in this forum..i went for the x31.

It will be carried to work everyday, however, given the fact i would have needed an x41 with 8 cell battery, the x41 would have been 0.3lbs lighter than the x31, and frankly..for the difference, i would rather have the x31 with a 2.5 inch drive.

so there you go!

now, are there rescue and recovery disks for the x31? how do i install a fresh xp?

Congratulations on the x-31. As for the Recovery Discs, you can call Lenovo IBM ($40.00) for them, or ebay it for the set of 6 discs with the OS slipstreamed into it. fyi - XP Pro is preinstalled on the following x31 units:

J7U, JXU, JHU, JBU, C2U, CBU, B2U, BBU

Windows 2000 Pro is preloaded on the J6U, JAU, C1U, B1U, and BAU units.

So if you do get the proper recovery discs, be aware of the OS that will be your preinstall.

Also just curious: Is your x31 still under warranty? and how much did you end up paying for the second hand unit? What unit did you get (I have a 2672- BBU, and just wondering what the going price is nowadays. I paid $1250 for it 1.5 years ago)?

How about making your own recovery discs. I did it and they work great.
