X41T/Tablet - can't use the UltraBase??

#1 Post by ZPrime » Wed Nov 02, 2005 10:55 pm

I'm putting together an X41T for my fiancee, and when I called IBM about it they told me that the UltraBase X4 does not work on the X-Tablet.

Can anyone with a tablet confirm or deny this? They told me that the mounting plastics are specifically configured so it doesn't mate up properly or something.

If true, this sucks, it means the ONLY option for an optical without dragging around a spare power supply is to use the USB2 burner, which is horribly expensive.

I understand that you wouldn't really want to use it in tablet mode with the UltraBase attached, but what if you want to use notebook mode and want a CD, say for gaming or whatnot? Really dumb design move on IBM's part if they did indeed make them incompatible...

they are right. X41T isn't compatible with UltraBase X4 but it can use ThinkPad X4 Dock which is another newer dock (http://thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_X4_Dock).
ThinkPad X40, X41, X41T can use Thinkpad X4 Dock but
only X40 and X41 can use UltraBase X4
