X4x SD Card Reader

#1 Post by akao » Thu Nov 03, 2005 3:27 pm

Hi,

I have a couple of questions abou the SD Card Reader on the X40 (probably applies to X41 as well):

- What is the maximum capacity for the SD Card Reader?
- What is the maxium capacity to BOOT from the SD?
- When you put the SD car in the slot, does the SD card stick out or is it flush? I want to leave a SD card permanently in the slot if possible.

Thanks.

I own an X41T, but I think they're all the same in this, so:
1. I don't know.
2. You can't boot from it. It's a PCMCIA device (somewhere inside it connected through the PCMCIA controller, and it cannot be booted.
3. It flushes, like in most of the PDAs. You can leave it there.

On my X41 I can read/write SD-Cards with 1 GB (I don't have larger ones). As mentioned above, booting is not possible and the card nearly disappers inside the thinkpad.

Thanks so much. I'm trying to see if I can speed up my laptop by placing the often used program files on the SD card instead of the hard drive.

Hmmm... Tell us your results when you have them.
I think you may have a problem because of the flash cards "lifetime" problem. You should hope your SD card will not die after some time.
