It's Drifting - Trackpoint Problem

#1 Post by saywhat » Wed Dec 07, 2005 8:58 am

I just recently received my used X40 and it's work really well so far except that I'm having a problem with the trackpoint on it. I have it turned up to the most sensitive setting and it still seems to require much more effort than my R40.

Also, somtimes when I take my finger off the trackpoint it will drift slowly in one direction or another. Usually not more than a inch or so but it's VERY annoying.

Any ideas?

My x22 does that. Heck, it just did it pressing the reply on this message. Does anyone have a fix for it? I updated the trackpoint drivers. Sometimes mine will drift all the way to the edge of the screen and when I move it the darn thing drifts back. I have to click 5 or 6 times or move the trackpoint rapidly to get it to stop.

I have had it about a week. Any ideas?

I believe that there are several posts regarding this topic. Try searching for it in all the forums, to see if there is a workaround.

It is a feature of the trackpoint that actually is meant to avoid drifting. If light pressure is added to the trackpoint and you move slowly, it will pull it back to the previous XY position, because it is assuming that drifting was moving it, not your finger...make sense?

To the OP, train yourself to not rest your finger on it when you're not using it. You're interfering with its self-calibration.

You, on the other hand, may have a bad keyboard.

I guess it the suggestions in that other thread have helped. One of the things that helped was unchecking increase pointer accuracy. What's weird is I didn't have these problems with my R40 which I would think would function exactly the same way as my X40 as far as the trackpoint is concerned.
