Thinkpad X41 2528FRU

#1 Post by Agentjam » Wed Dec 07, 2005 5:26 pm

I'm going to buy a Thinkpad X41 2528FRU http://www-131.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... logId=-840

...but have a few questions i'd like to ask some thinkpad fans. I was told by a lenovo salesperson that the first week of January an 80GB higher speed hard drive will be available for these models (currently only 4200 rpm on all).

Should I buy the above X41 now while they have the holiday deals? or wait for the better hard drive? Do you think prices will go down in January?

Currently the above X41 price has dropped $200 (from $2500 to $2300), has free shipping, and can be upgraded to 1.5GB RAM for only an additional $149. This sounds like a great deal to me that I shouldn't pass up but I would also like the faster hard drive.

Will I get burned if I try to wait for the faster hard drive and end up paying a lot more in January? If I do buy this X41 now with the slow 4200rpm drive, can I myself upgrade later to a faster drive?

Sorry for all the questions, just need some opinions!

Thanks,
Vince

Another question...i was told no X40/X41 notebooks have internal optical drives. Since the above notebook says it includes a DVD Writer, does this mean that it must come with a docking station?

Thanks again,
Vince

The website doesn't indicate it comes with the Ultrabase but the tabook says it's included, with a DVD RW.

So do any X series notebooks have integrated optical drives? If not i'd have to assume that if any notebook says it comes with an optical drive that it would include the ultrabase as well. I can't imagine them sending you just the optical drive with no way to utilize it.

Anyone else have recent experience with an X model w/optical? or who can help with my above questions? :D

Thanks for the quick reply bibendum!

Go with tabook, always. Also, when it says it has an optical drive, it comes with one. Thats how it worked with my 25256HU.

To my knowledge there are no X-series which have optical drive integrated.
X41: 2525-6HU (1.5 P-M LV, 60GB, Intel abg + bluetooth, 1GB)
Was lurking... until... I had an epiphany...
