OK. Well I guess that pretty much sums it up then. If an X20 can't be upgraded then neither can an X21, and if an X22 can't then that rules out the X23 & X24 too. It was worth a try as once you mentioned the RAM, HDD, and wireless speed upgrades I couldn't think of anything else that would matter to you besides the processor (I already knew video wasn't possible). I guess you've hit it all then. Well, maybe if you buy the X2 base you could get a speedier optical drive or even a dvd-burner?

I was surprised that the 800mhz Pentium III and 256mb RAM runs does everything I need it to on here. (My desktop is an overclocked A64 @ 2800mhz 1gb RAM, 6800gt)
With XP Pro, I use it for everything office based, internet, email, messaging... most everything except photoshop and gaming. I even some web design work on here.
It doesn't feel sluggish or slow, once you have the OS tweaked it is rather snappy if you keep XP in good shape.

The X22 is probably the best value at this time for a lightweight and small laptop.
This is my travel machine. I am surprised every time I use it. It is so fast that it's hard to believe it's only a PIII, 800MHz machine. I have 256MB RAM, WinXP and I upgraded the 20GB drive to an 80GB, 4200 rpm with and 8MB cache. Although the drive is the same speed as the original, the cache (4X the original's size) makes a huge difference. The drive runs cool and is silent, but it is fast!
The T22 was also the first model to have an Infrared port.
USB 1.0 is the only down side (but a pc card will work).
The T20 is noticeably slower, I had two and sold both.
You can refer to the Hardware Guide, but the T22 definitely has the cpu soldered to the system board, I looked, too. Unless you have really small fingers, loads of patience, and a soldering gun with a tip the size of a pin, you're not swapping the cpu on this one!

Batteries and LCDs are the big issues on any used laptops, and there is no hard and fast rule for how long they will last. Best bet is to ask lots of questions of the seller before you buy and make sure that he/she will take it back if the LCD isn't to your liking.
Batteries should always just assume to be bad. Worst case, you go to IBM or an eBay vender and buy a new one.

"An atheist is just somebody who feels about Yahweh the way any decent Christian feels about Thor or Baal or the golden calf. As has been said before, we are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further."
