Does anyone make a faster hard drive for the X-40?

The concensus around here I have seen is that the 1.8 inch drives in the x4* series are limited to 4200 rpm.

Thanks Wolfman for the info but sorry to hear that. I love my X-40 however it's so sssslllloooowwww. If a faster HD is not possible I think it will have to be replaced. I have made all the other enhancements.

Didn´t someone a few threads down say that an IBM guy had claimed there would be a faster 80GB drive for the X4*-series in January? Any news on this?

Hmmm... I haven't heard any news of a > 4200 RPM 1.8 inch drive coming soon (which in no way means they aren't!

) - I did see that Toshiba was able to get 40 gig on a single platter for 1.8 inch drives and that there may be an 80 gig 1.8 inch drive soon but also at 4200 rpm. Here is Hitachi's current lineup:

I'd be curious if there is a 5400 or so drive for the 1.8 inch space imminent too as the X32's seem to have disappeared from IBM's site and the tabook for December lists only 6 models or so...

is there any word on whether the Toshiba 1.8" drives are faster than the Hitachi 1.8" drives used on the X4x series?
