Thinkpad x20 Hard Drive

I am in the process of donating my Thinkpad x20 (purchased in Jan 2001) and want to permanently clear the hard drive. Given the security issues these days with personal information, I would like to wipe the hard drive clean.

I have been unable to figure out how to do this. I have looked through the help menus, and they seem to indicate that I cannot re-format the primary partition. I have one partition --> IBM Preload (C:).

I would appreciate some advice on how to re-format the hard drive or utilize an alternative procedure to clear the hard drive.

Put it in an external drive.

But formating doesn't help... 99.9% of your data can still be read...

you can download a program to help you do a low level format which will erase the hard drive so that nobody else can see the old contents of the drive.
