Hello,
I am fairly new to my tablet and to the Thinkpad series and I wanted to know what modifications people have made in order to increase its performance running XP. I've followed the thread about hard drive clicking so I know that this is an issue other people have. I am mostly thinking of software rather than hardware modifications: what windows services do you turn off, what IBM pre-installed software do you find that you can run easily without? What are some other big performance pitfalls? I'd love to hear any advice.
Thanks and best wishes for the New Year,
Adam

Check through the posts for a bit. Several things: Turn off Windows eye candy (truly a waste of time and processing power); turn off network searching and other like things in Windows explorer; Turn off auto update checks in most applications; make sure virus and spyware tools are up-to-date and don't do silly things on the internet (many people do silly things and complain later); get an auto defrag tool like Perfect Disk and defrag daily.
Set Task Manager to run always and minimized. My two machines (IBM Desktop and IBM ThinkPad) run at 0 to 1 percent CPU 98 percent of the time. I do not have any performance problems with either machine.
