Should I upgrade to X31 from X22?

#1 Post by silo » Wed Jan 11, 2006 9:56 pm

I have an X22, bought recently, added a 40G 5400RPM drive and maxed the memory at 640. Thing is pretty quick but does not have built in wireless and has 800MHz CPU.

What would be the advantages of upgrading to an X31 or X32, or even a 40-series?

Better video? Faster processor? Capable of taking more ram? Same keyboard or different? Screen the same? What else?

I like it for the size and weight but I'm not certain there are major differences between the X22 and the X31/32. I'd like to do some Frontpage 2003 work on the machine, and writing, and minor photo stuff and or graphics.

I have a wonder T30 that has the 1400x900 (or whatever it is) screen and a P3 2GHz and is very fast and sweet, but weighs a ton by comparison.

Just wondering what you guys think.

Thanks.

PS: bought some pointing stick caps from IBM/Lenovo, and they are much better than Sofpoint (sp?) in my opinion. The mushroom top is near perfect for my money.

The X31 and X32 have more battery options, faster processors, and USB 2.0. The last is really the only reason I'd consider moving up. USB 2.0 would give me more options for peripherals, rather than swapping pc cards all the time.

You can add builtin-wireless if you want. I've just ordered an Atheros card myself.

I tried that with that T30 and it hasn't worked out well so far, and that one has antennae built in. Was a little worried about doing on the X22.

I'm squeamish, probably.

Well, I was thinking of transferring more responsibilities to the X31/32 machine and thought I might need more processor speed and more memory, if the 31/32 allow more memory.
