"Media" error?
Partway through the boot sequence my X24 shows an error message---
"PXE E61 Media Failure"
This goes away and the boot completes normally. Machine seems to run fine. What does this message mean, if anything?

TNX for the advice. I have found a variety of reasons for this error message but think it is just another of the misleading or plain wrong messages in computer life---possibly a hold-over from an earlier BIOS problem. Since the machine runs fine wih no hesitations or hiccups (other than this message), until somebody in the Community knows exactly what it means I'm gonna flog forward with a smile.tfflivemb2 wrote:I did a quick search on google, and found that in some cases it referred to a BIOS problem with network cards, HOWEVER, for IBM laptops, it appeared to come from the Hard drive needing to be reseated, or that the hard drive was failing.
Try reseating your hard drive and see if that works.
I don't know if this is just stating the obvious, but PXE is related to booting over the network. So if you are booting up the hard drive, then perhaps in the boot order in the BIOS, you have boot by network higher than boot by harddrive. This doesn't explain the error, but this might get rid of it.

akao you are certainly not "stating the obvious" to me and I appreciate the help!! This machine came sans manual or any history and the type is new to me as well so any info is "not obvious" to this user.akao wrote:I don't know if this is just stating the obvious, but PXE is related to booting over the network. I think you've got it---I checked the boot order and disabled "network". My guess is that at some point there was a disconnect from the network during a data transfer which originated this message. Another source I found said that such messages could result from failing to "stop" a storage device on a USB port before removal---sorta the same idea. Somebody violated protocol and I"m left with the grousing.
