guys this is a edited version of first post!
above are the ones i'm using now, prime 95 went for 24hrs with no error,
dinamic switching for ac and battery optimzed adds almost 40 min for 4cell and 90min for a 8 cell, which its pretty cool! now i can run my 8 cell for 10 hrs!
||||||| using | intel's default
14x || 0.908 || 1.116
13x || 0.892 || 1.116
12x || 0.860 || 1.1
11x || 0.828 || 1.068
10x || 0.812 || 1.052
9x || 0.780 || 1.036
8x || 0.716 || 1.02
6x || 0.700 || 0.988
enjoy longer battery and cool processor (30-32 on bat and 34-38 on ac) which means fan doesent have to work almost never....
what else can you want? thin, ultralight and deadsilent laptop?!

just realised that with new NHC 1.10 you can use fan control as well with no problem at all! just disable nhc temperature reading and you'll have a deadly silent laptop, colder cpu and longer batery!
what else would you need with your x40?! a slimbay...

HI,
sorry for late reply but i wasnt arround.
so, hdd clicking i had it at previous hdd, it was annoing but not as much when the hdd started to have a high pitched noise, that was really driving insane. i've called ibm (swiss) and they'v sent me a new hdd home, which is deadly silent, just from time to time makes a crack noise...but anyway at least i hear it only when its accessing hard the hdd and when has that wired noise (1 at average 2hrs)
>Also is your 1.4 the base chip for that model?
you mean if the processor goes to 1.4ghz? yes.
and without nhc i get to the 8 cell around 8.830 hrs (lcd down, no mp3 or movie) and with nhc (1.10 and fan control 0.18) it blows to 10hrs and if i switch on the mp3 goes down to "only" 8-8.30 hrs
hope it helped,
dorin

Dorin,
Thanks.
Actually I meant to ask if the 1.4 chip is the *best* version suited for long battery life? How would a X40- 1.2 or 1.0 chip be, heard anything?
Also you say you get 8.8 hours of battery life with your "lcd down", what does that mean? I have read so many reports on this forum of people getting 5 or 6 hours on their 8 cell X-40's, is it strictly because of your "Nhc" that you get 2.5 more hours of battery life, or is there something other owners are not doing to get such long times?
Last question: What hard drive did Lenovo replace your bad one with?
Thanks again, JL
Thanks.

with or without nhc and the fan controller on, i still get the same amount of time with the 4-cell and the extended battery= 6hrs.
i only use one setting. 6x=0.796. any lower and the system would crash.
also, LCD down means that you have the LOWEST brightness level

hi guys,
sorry for late reply, i just dont know how it happened but i didnt see that there were messages here!
so, here i am:
1. the new hdd is HTC426040G9AT00 , check the comments at http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 9&start=90
2. on my 1.4 ghz (2386-H6G) i use the following undervolting settings
intel default ....................i use
14x 1.116 ....................0.908
13x 1.116 ....................0.892
12x 1.1 ....................0.86
11x 1.068 ....................0.828
10x 1.052 ....................0.812
9x 1.036 ....................0.78
8x 1.02 ....................0.716
6x 0.988 ....................0.7
3. amgdoc, if you check my posts you will see that in the beggining i was complaining about same non reuslts with nhc, but after thousands of tries i managed! pls check http://www.bocanila.ro/battery.jpg , as i said with no wifi (plane, train, what reason to be switched on?), and running only ms office gama (outlook, ppt, project ).
the mp3 eats alot of batt! dont know why you have such a short bat, i get 6hr if i watch movies on 8cell, till nhc i used to have ~8-8.30 MS office work time..
4. jl123, i didnt had the chance to run on a lower cpu clock, but theoretically 1,2 or 1.0 (are x40 with 1.0?!) should last abit longer, as the cpu needs less power, now once again, depends what applications are you gonna use, and how bright you keep the laptop.
though, anybody help?, all 1.4 / 1.2 / 1.0 cpu's they have a minimum of 600mhz? cause i mine goest 90% mostly at 600mhz, so it shouldnt be any dif in speed with other cpu expect when the throttle, right?
once again sorry for late reply!!!

Re: X40 Undervolted => LONGER BATTERY!
Ok, read all the above values - but didnt see ones for my particular processor: Pentium M Banias @ 1.2Ghz.
In NHC i have the following multipliers:
6x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 11x, 12x
Does anyone have some to-start-with values for this processor model?
Thanks
madkat

Ok, tried several values - according to what i've "digged" around here, and based on my previous expierience with some R5x's.
The first 2 multipliers (6 and
seem to work, but only maximum 3 notches below the default voltages. But from the third above nothing below the stock voltage works, the machine keeps giving blue screens...
Using NHC 2.0 - same that works on the R51 in my sig, and my previous frankenpad.

Really now... doesnt anyone have some working undervolting voltages, for the 1.2Ghz X40 processor?

If I remember, I'll post it when I get access to my X40. I think I'm using NHC on it.madkat wrote:Really now... doesnt anyone have some working undervolting voltages, for the 1.2Ghz X40 processor?

Keep in mind that the voltages are unique to each processor. What works for me might not work for you. That's why it's highly recommended to run prime95/seti or some other processor intensive program to make sure your computer is stable after voltages changes.
