X21 adding 512Mb low density 16 chips ram module possible?

#1 Post by corco » Fri Jan 20, 2006 3:09 pm

I have been searching a lot in this forum about upgrading memory in my X21.
If I understand OK from the posts of other people, the X20 and X21 only accept SO-dim 144pins low density (8 chips in each side).
256Mb modules of this kind are known to work, but what about if one could find 512Mb so-dims low density (8 chips in each side).
Would it work?

i think the 512mb ram chip will work but not all of the memory will be recognized because the max ram possible on the x21 is 384mb.
Current: x31, 1.6ghz p-m, 1.5GB Ram,
40GB 4200rpm HD [Seagate 7200rpm 10.5ms HD on the way], Atheros b/G/n wireless
Sold: X22, 384 Ram, 40GB 5400rpm HD

I read in a POST that the chipset can handle more than 384MB memory. Is this figure then a BIOS issue?
